Good day, all! Just a quick little list today... it's been an odd -yet surprisingly decent- week, so, until Saturday, I thought I'd 'quench' your thirst for a list by dropping this little ditty in. Here are 10 really cool Beer Bottles, in no particular order, I found strewn about the web. Each is accompanied by a little history. Drink on!
10) BELL'S OBERON
An American wheat ale brewed with Saaz hops. Spicy and fruity, Oberon is the color and scent of a summer afternoon. Available March 24th (it's yearly release date... a big to-do here in Kalamazoo) through October. Brewed in Comstock Michigan and poured at it's little pub in Kalamazoo. YUM!
9) PFEIFFER'S
Pfeiffer's products included a dark and rich Wurzbürger Beer, an "Export" beer and a traditional lager called Pfeiffer's Famous Beer. The brewery was formed between Beaufait and Bellevue bordered by Mack on the outskirts of downtown Detroit.
8) STRAUB BOCK BEER
The Straub Brewery was founded in the 1870s by German immigrant Peter Straub. At the age of 19, during the rise in German nationalism, Straub left his home and family in search of the American dream.
7) TENNENT
Tennent's Lager is Scotland's best-selling pale lager. The lager was first brewed in 1885 by Hugh Tennent and in 1893 it won the highest award at the Chicago World's Fair. Tennent's was the first lager to be brewed in Scotland.
6) YORKSHIRE WARRIOR
On St George's Day 23 April 2008, the Cropton Brewery released a new beer called Yorkshire Warrior. The beer was produced to celebrate the proud achievements of the Yorkshire Regiment and to commemorate the sacrifices the soldiers and families of the regiment have endured.
5) DUKE
In 1950 Duquesne Brewery was a regional brewing company that made "Duke" brand beer and was one of the 10 largest breweries in the country. Duquesne Brewery of Pittsburgh also did business as the Chartiers Valley Brewery in Carnegie, PA. Like many regional breweries, Duquesne's fortunes went flat in the 1970s as its products were crowded out by national brands like Budweiser.
4) GIPPS AMBERLIN
Gipps Brewery Fire Business of Peoria, IL, closed in 1957. So sad.
3) GOETZ
In 1961 the Pearl Brewing Company officially purchased the M. K. Goetz Brewing Company. Overall the merger of the two companies was a success. Beers from both companies began to see production at the two facilities. Goetz brewed all of the Pearl beers for easier distribution in the north, and Pearl produced Goetz’s Country Club malt liquor.
2) BELL'S KALAMAZOO STOUT
A full-bodied stout with plenty of roast flavor. Kalamazoo Stout is available year round, leading our vast portfolio of stouts. This stout is just as sweet and tangy as a rich glass oc chocolate. Trust me. You like dark, rich beer? Get on it!
1) MISSISSIPPI MUD BLACK AND TAN
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan."
