THE TOP 10 BEER BOTTLES TODAY

Good day, all! Just a quick little list today... it's been an odd -yet surprisingly decent- week, so, until Saturday, I thought I'd 'quench' your thirst for a list by dropping this little ditty in. Here are 10 really cool Beer Bottles, in no particular order, I found strewn about the web. Each is accompanied by a little history. Drink on!

10) BELL'S OBERON

An American wheat ale brewed with Saaz hops. Spicy and fruity, Oberon is the color and scent of a summer afternoon. Available March 24th (it's yearly release date... a big to-do here in Kalamazoo) through October. Brewed in Comstock Michigan and poured at it's little pub in Kalamazoo. YUM!

9) PFEIFFER'S

Pfeiffer's products included a dark and rich Wurzbürger Beer, an "Export" beer and a traditional lager called Pfeiffer's Famous Beer. The brewery was formed between Beaufait and Bellevue bordered by Mack on the outskirts of downtown Detroit.

8) STRAUB BOCK BEER

The Straub Brewery was founded in the 1870s by German immigrant Peter Straub. At the age of 19, during the rise in German nationalism, Straub left his home and family in search of the American dream.

7) TENNENT

Tennent's Lager is Scotland's best-selling pale lager. The lager was first brewed in 1885 by Hugh Tennent and in 1893 it won the highest award at the Chicago World's Fair. Tennent's was the first lager to be brewed in Scotland.

6) YORKSHIRE WARRIOR

On St George's Day 23 April 2008, the Cropton Brewery released a new beer called Yorkshire Warrior. The beer was produced to celebrate the proud achievements of the Yorkshire Regiment and to commemorate the sacrifices the soldiers and families of the regiment have endured.

5) DUKE

In 1950 Duquesne Brewery was a regional brewing company that made "Duke" brand beer and was one of the 10 largest breweries in the country. Duquesne Brewery of Pittsburgh also did business as the Chartiers Valley Brewery in Carnegie, PA. Like many regional breweries, Duquesne's fortunes went flat in the 1970s as its products were crowded out by national brands like Budweiser.

4) GIPPS AMBERLIN

Gipps Brewery Fire Business of Peoria, IL, closed in 1957. So sad.

3) GOETZ

In 1961 the Pearl Brewing Company officially purchased the M. K. Goetz Brewing Company. Overall the merger of the two companies was a success. Beers from both companies began to see production at the two facilities. Goetz brewed all of the Pearl beers for easier distribution in the north, and Pearl produced Goetz’s Country Club malt liquor.

2) BELL'S KALAMAZOO STOUT

A full-bodied stout with plenty of roast flavor. Kalamazoo Stout is available year round, leading our vast portfolio of stouts. This stout is just as sweet and tangy as a rich glass oc chocolate. Trust me. You like dark, rich beer? Get on it!

1) MISSISSIPPI MUD BLACK AND TAN

Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan."

THE TOP 10 VIDEO GAME THEME SONGS

Aside from the obvious game play, character development, and pretty colors, nothing solidifies a video games stance in history like its music and soundtrack. Throughout the history of the arcade/console/hand-held video game, characters have come and gone, titles have amazed and disappointed, and systems have stood high and fallen fast, yet the music from so many still sticks on our collective minds. The following ten video game themes are far and away the most well know as they have spawned more sequels between them that the populations of third-world nations. So, sit back, relax, pull up a controller, and enjoy.

10) TETRIS

Something so sweet emanates from this digital recording from the NES version of this game. It's so MIDI, yet so clear that it is instantly recognizable anywhere. I remember when I first got this game -it came with the se we got for Christmas one year, possibly 87-88, something like that- and I played the hell out of this game. I'm proud to admit I made it to level 65 without any assistance. Just many hours of ignoring everything else around me.

9) MORTAL KOMBAT

The soundtrack that launched a dance phenomenon a few years ago... unfortunately. Yes, we all knew this theme was ripe for conversion into a sweaty, writhing dance track with as much over-dubbing and tweaking as a rappers car, but at the rate it became overplayed and decidedly annoying, sixteen more mediocre sequels could have been made. Oh, wait...

8) HALO 2

Two part raucus metal, two parts 80's 'Ass-Rock', mix thoroughly, sprinkle liberally with sassy piano, you get Halo 2. Far and away better than the original or even the third installment, the theme accompanies one of game-doms biggest multi-player onslaught video games. Very cool.

7) THE ELDER SCROLLS IV: OBLIVION

From somewhere out of Middle Earth, the haunting and ethereal theme from Elder Scrolls is at once beautiful and treacherous, especially for those familiar with the game. It combines everything you find throughout the game, and just enough more to make it stand out all on its own.

6) FINAL FANTASY

So many games, yet one strong theme reverberates throughout them all. I was always a bigger fan of the original four or five FF's, but I have played the newer ones and I appreciate the fact that they've always managed to slide the one strong theme somewhere in the game.

5) CASTLEVANIA

Undoubtedly one of the classics. Just hearing this intro brought me right back into the game I loved so very much growing up... well, as a teen, at any rate. Honestly, the strength of the current Castlevania titles have maintained their strength souly on game play and music exactly as the original did.

4) METAL GEAR SOLID

Does anyone remember the original Metal Gear from the NES? Yeah, me too...

3) DONKEY KONG

To really see the best that this classic video game has to offer, you need to check out THE KING OF KONG. Excellent documentary on to of this game's finest players.

2) THE LEGEND OF ZELDA

Instantly recognizable. The Legend of Zelda theme, as the game itself, was easily one of Nintendo's greatest achievements. Every game since has only expanded on it's perfection and looks to do the very same for future generations.

1) SUPER MARIO BROTHERS

And there you have it: by far the most well known song matched with easily the most well known video game icon of all time. I DARE YOU TO ARGUE!
